Well you can do it with stroke; are you looking for video or print?

You need plenty of layers set to multiply/color/burn…etc in order to achieve it properly. Don’t forget your layer with a feathered mask (showing the edges only) with a gaussian blur on it — and some color burning gradients. It will take some patience — if you’re looking to do it with print I’d use some sort of 3d software and just lay out some sweep nurbs (c4d…) — I believe i ran across a tutorial on that sort of thing in an issue of COMPUTER ARTS PROJECTS. It was last summer and it showed how to do it in maya using multi-pass techniques. You can’t just ‘make’ it; it is going to be a ton of layers and effects with different blends — but it’ll look hot in the end.

We have a tutorial in the library called Creating Liquid light that might help or give you a starting point.

You can find all of the tutorials in the library by clicking on the After Effects COW title banner at the top of the page.

Thanks. That tutorial is helpful as well as the advice. I kind of figured it’s a bit of trial and error so i will jump on in and give it a shot 🙂
