Mask Tool Not Working Properly
I have been having an issue with making a mask. I have done this before and made sure I did everything properly but for some reason it is not working. The mask layer won’t conform to the mask.

What other effects do you have applied to the layer? You may need to precompose or use a track matte instead of a mask.

I precomposed it and the only effect is fractal noise. I tried it again and I think I may have fixed it. I have to work around mask it and then invert it for it to show.

I am unable to feather out the mask now. It only wants to expand.

There was no mask on the solid layer in “sprite,” but I created one and was able to mask, feather and expand it as expected.
I’d first suggest rebooting; it that doesn’t work, clear your cache (Edit > Purge > All memory & disk cache); and if that doesn’t work, reset your preferences (hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS) while starting After Effects).
