“How to Animate Particle Wave in Adobe After Effects Without Plugins?”
Hi everyone,
I’ve been trying to recreate a particle wave animation like you often see in those abstract motion backgrounds — where particles swirl and flow in a wave from left to right, almost like a digital wind trail.
I want to do this entirely in Adobe After Effects, but I’m hitting a wall. I’ve tried using Fractal Noise, CC Particle World, and some masking, but the motion doesn’t look natural or fluid enough. I’m specifically avoiding third-party plugins like Trapcode Particular due to cost.
Has anyone here managed to pull off a fluid wave or swirl particle animation using only native AE tools? Any tips on emitter movement, displacement effects, or how to make particles follow a flow more organically?
Also curious — would it be easier to simulate this in Blender and bring it back into AE?
Looking forward to your thoughts and techniques!
Thanks in advance.
