QTVR and AE 6.5
Posted by Encheval on January 16, 2006 at 10:08 amDo you guys know how can i import and manipulate QTVR inside AE ?
There was a plugin (QTVRMatte) once but it doesn’t exist anymore (died with AE 5 and Mac OS 9…)My main goal is to use a QTVR (or anything else if someone has an idea…) as background where i could move the camera freely and have the “distortion feel” of the QTVR in a 360

January 16, 2006 at 12:35 pmI’ve dummy’d this effect myself without QTVR. In fact QTVR didn’t even cross my mind at the time.
If you have a very large image tht you want to use as your background layer, import this to AFX, and drop in the timeline. Then place an adjustment layer the same size as the comp directly above it. Finally, apply a “perspective correction” filter to the adjustment layer, with a value that create the distortion you desire. When you then animate the background layer at the bottom of the comp, it will look a lot more interesting than just ‘scrolling’ a 2D background around.
You may or may not want to pre-comp these 2 things if you are going to place more layers above.
Good luck – it worked a treat for me!

January 16, 2006 at 12:38 pmAs you said, QTVR came and went pretty quickly. Not many people got the point and few people did anything with it and the technology just got side-lined where it died of boredom, I believe. I can’t remember the last thing that I saw that used QTVR.
It’s a safe bet that QTVRMatte is long gone with nothing in its place to replace it. At least I can’t think of anything. Maybe someone else here can recall something that would work but I’m sure drawing a blank here…
Sorry to be the bearer of the eulogy,

January 16, 2006 at 12:42 pmGreat alternative, Dom. And as you say, a nicer end result than what was acheived using QTVR, as well.

January 16, 2006 at 6:07 pmi’ve jsut realised – i meant “optics compensation” not perspective correction – maybe you figured that out already (sorry, i was a bit rusty, not looked for that filter in a while).
hope it works out for you anyway!!
