  Fire Dissolve effect

  Hi hi, newish to After Effects here. I’m attempting to replicate the dissolve effect found in this video here (blood in video)

  So far, the best I’ve been able to come up with is creating multiple ellipses masks over the object I want to dissolve, and then expanding the mask size to cover the object in question.

  If possible, I wanted to find a way to make the masks by hand (like a pen tool) to make them less symmetrical, and to add a small orange outline to it to make it look like the object is burning away.

  you might try the cc burn film effect… it will generate a random blobby texture as a matte to dissolve the layer away.

  to add glowing edges, try adding the glow effect after the burn film effect, setting the glow based on property to alpha channel and the white color chip to the desired color. fiddle with the threshold, radius and intensity to see if you can get the effect you are after.
