  • Can’t select shape layer to set first vortex

Performing my first shape morph to a shape layer. Can’t seem to select a point to set first vortex. Have attempted this 1. by selecting the shape layer itself,
    2. by selecting the group and
    3. by selecting the keyframe of the path and right clicking.

    Any help appreciated.

You need to select an individual point on a path in order to be able to set the first vertex.

To do this choose the selection tool and then click on the point on the path that you wish to be the first vertex. Now the menu option should be available for you to set the first vertex.

    cheers,

Angie, thank you for your answer. The problem is that I can’t seem to select a point. I’ve been using Adobe products for over 15 years so I definitely know how to select or direct select a point. Once I can select a point, I definitely see the other steps. It’s not a hard process, just stumped on selecting a path point.

You might be using one of the predefined shapes (ie, rectangle, ellipse, polystar). I don’t think you can direct select a single point on those. You’ll need to convert it to a path first.

If you twirl open your Contents and your “Rectangle Path” and see a size and position parameter, then you’re using a predefined shape. Right click on the words “Rectangle Path” in the timeline and you’ll have the option to “convert to Bezier path”.

Be warned that once it’s a path you’ll lose the size and position parameters, so if you need those then don’t convert. Instead add a Trim Paths and tweak the offset parameter until it starts at the point you want.
