camera settings/match cinema 4d
Posted by Agne Jurkenaite on September 27, 2017 at 9:38 amokay so i started working with cinema 4d and im building this simple room by following a tutorial..
i think i managed to import the file into an ae project and use the ae camera tool to move around the room.
what’s really bothering me is how the camera in after effects makes everything long and far away, where the project in cinema 4d is… it doesnt distort the objects it gives how they are. im kinda thinking this has to do with after effects camera tool settings..
ill share some screenshots hopefully they give you guys an idea but what i want to achieve is same camera perspective as cinema4d in my ae project.c4d: https://imgur.com/yZNYVYq
ae: https://imgur.com/JZYzjIz
ae camera settings: https://imgur.com/Lr6mBaQpls dont use big words lol its my first time ever working with c4d

September 27, 2017 at 12:42 pmIn your C4D screenshot, I can see you looking at the scene through the perspective view in the viewport. I’m not sure you’re looking with any camera.
But If you import your project to AE and hit the extract button, things should match. Is that what you’re doing? or are you creating another camera?Cassius Marques

September 28, 2017 at 6:17 amIt looks like you may have more than one camera in C4D. To make sure the correct camera is active, click on the View through Camera button in the Object Manager in C4D.
When you are in AE there’s no need to extract the camera as the Cineware effect should have taken care of that. But you may need to check that you have the Cinema 4D camera selected in the Cineware effect.
To help me figure out your issue can you please upload screenshots of the Object manager in C4D and the Cineware effect and timeline in AE? Thanks
cheers,
Angie

September 28, 2017 at 7:50 ami actually dont have any cameras set up in cinema4d. what im hoping to do is do all of my editing in after effects, camera movement included. there will be things like text and maybe cutouts within that space thats why i need the 3d room to be an editable environment for the things that will be going inside. i assume if ill be doing camera movement in c4d this will not affect the rest of the elements back in after effects..
im just wondering if theres a way to change the camera settings on the ae camera tool..
also, sorry, but what do you mean by ‘extract’?

September 28, 2017 at 2:49 pmTo check if it’s working please Follow these steps;
In Cinema 4D, create a camera while in the Perspective view.
Save the C4D file.
In AE, go to File > Import and choose the C4D file
Drag the C4D file onto the New Comp button to create a comp with it.
Your view should now be the same as the viewport view in C4D?
Please let me know if this works?
cheers,
Angie

September 28, 2017 at 9:29 pmyes, that works perfectly fine. what do i do next? haha
originally, i changed the ‘camera’ option in CINEWARE effect to ‘centred comp camera’ so i can look around the room with an ae camera tool.
https://i.imgur.com/69R6pH2.png thats what it looks like right now in ae
im just bothered by the stretch the camera tool’s lens makes of the room oTL it makes the viewer feel small or the room be very gigantic. :^( -

September 29, 2017 at 12:03 amThe fact that it works using the steps means it’s not the software! ???? so, in AE delete the camera that you have created and instead, in the Cineware effect, click on the Extract button to import exactly the same camera used in C4D into your AE comp. Now you should have a camera in your AE comp that exactly matches the C4D camera.
cheers,
Angie

i was curious about something else although its not too related to this thread but im not sure how i should be searching this up.
i made my cloth but its animated… like, it starts as a board above the bed then falls and takes shape. is there a way to have it still in its right position throughout its entire duration or do i trim the clip until the cloth has settled. im not sure what the tutorial did as its in russian n i dont speak it that well haha” -

September 30, 2017 at 7:36 amIn cinema 4D, You can set your duration in the project settings. So just trim the start of the project to the point where you want it to start, after the material has fallen. You may need to then increase the duration at the end of the animation.
