Glowing face
Is there any way to make part of somebody’s face glow. For instance, in just about every men’s razor/shaving cream commercial, the trail left by the razor is glowing a cool blue or green and usually has little sparkles in it too. Is there any way I can recreate this effect in after effects?

Sure. Duplicate the footage. On the duplicate, Mask the area you want to glow. Add the stylize>Glow effect. Change the colors to what you want the glow colors to be. Play with noise or particles for sparkles.
There are a ton of ways, but that is the very most basic way.

Thanks — that sounds good/easy — is there a way I can have the subject walk around and still have his face glow? In other words, do I have to individually mask every frame or is there another, easy way to have the mask perfectly go with the part of the face I want?

Search the Cow archives of the last few years with the search word ‘roto’.
It’s the art and technique of using masks to define areas of moving images so they can be isolated and treated separately.
