    At 21 seconds the pony’s mane has some kind of inertia effect, and it looks really smooth. You can see the same “delay” or inertia effect throughout the rest of the animation but it doesn’t look as smooth. More examples are :43 or 1:04. At 1:18 you can see how her hair extends and lags behind, almost like how a particle trail would act upon the source moving away quickly. According to the creator the way the mane was done is “Trapcode Particular with the emitter following her head + the wave warp effect” and that was the only information given.

    I can’t figure out how to replicate this. I’m relatively new to AE and have played with Particular here and there, but I don’t know a lot about it. How would you apply particle properties to an image/object without any “particles” actually showing up? Assuming that’s how it’s done.

    If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know!

    If using Particular, then I’d guess it was a motion path. The particles will travel down a mask’s path, which you should be able to animate.

    It might not have been this manual, it might have been controlling the size over life.
