How to create a full moon?
Posted by Charlie Chang on January 10, 2006 at 8:13 pmI’m just starting to get my hands into AE. How do I create a full moon? Your help is appreciated.

January 10, 2006 at 8:17 pmThe best way would probably be to just use an image of one. There are a number of high quality photos of the moon on Google Image Search, just be careful about violating copyrights.
Or maybe this isn’t exactly what you meant?

January 10, 2006 at 8:26 pmThank you for the response. Yes, I was thinking about that too, but the problem is, how do I animate the moon so it looks like the moon shines onto the forground?

By the way, if you’re starting in After Effects, I suggest you really learn the basics.
Hope that helped.

January 11, 2006 at 8:45 amAvoiding spending on a plugin. You can create a ground reflection of the moon quite easily. I’m going to suggest the most basic way of doing this as there are several options but I don’t want to confuse you.
Bring in a copy of the moon you choose and press ‘S’ to reveal the scale options. There’s a small link symbol next to the two percentages. Uncheck this. Now, grab the top of the moon layer and pull it below the bottom of itself. The moon should turn upside down. You can now pull the sides and top and bottom to get it looking just right for a reflection.
Once you’re happy, adjust the transfer mode to something like ‘screen’ until it looks more like a reflection. And you’re done.
Hope that helps
Graham
