Issue solving manual tracking
So I don’t do too much camera and object tracking in C4D, and when I do, I usually have good footage to start with. But a client has bought this BAD stock footage of a plane flying by: shot with a handheld camera, no real environment data to track the camera motion, no focus distance data (or any other data) at all, a plane that flies by at high speed shot at 25 fps and at low shutter speed, so the plane is more motion blur than plane, and the cherry: with the sun right behind the plane, so there’re flares all over… basically a nightmare. And he wants me to put his logos and such on the plane, and only wants it if it looks 100% real.
In order to see if I could get a decent result, I spent 4 hours manually tracking specific points on the plane as best I could to ensure I had more than 7 tracking points at any given time. But when I run the solve, it only solves 1/3 of it all, and VERY badly at that.
Of course, I wasn’t expecting a great solve, but I was expecting at least to have something covering the entire clip, and close enough that I might manually tweak it after. But I’m getting results akin to simply tracking the plane by sight.
Anyway, before I get back to my client and tell him it’s impossible to work with the shot he’s given me, I wanted to post it here in case anyone can pinpoint what I’m clearly not seeing, or point me toward any resource that might help me figure out how to get a decent track.
Any advice will be HIGHLY appreciated! 🙏
P.S. I’ve had to compress the footage into medium quality JPGs, otherwise I couldn’t have uploaded it here. But I guess that doesn’t matter anyway, as the tracking points are what’s important.
