Proxy media missing size & ratio attributes
Hi
I created half resolution Proxy media in ProRes 422LT of my original 5028×4152 DPX source media. This is material meant to be de-squeezed into 2.40 widescreen letterboxed into 3840×2160.
When I turn on “Use Proxy Media if Available” in the Playback drop-down menu, the switch to proxy works fine, but the proxy isn’t taking on all the attributes assigned to the source clip in the timeline.
The color correction shows up on the proxy all right, but the pixel ratio and size do not conform to what’s been set for the source clip. The proxy stays “squeezed” and larger.
The pixel aspect ratio of the clips are set to 2.0.
The pixel aspect ratio of the timeline is set to square.
This set-up works great with the source material, but not the proxies.
It’s as if the metadata that tells the online footage to show the footage 2:1 doesn’t seem to flow through to the proxies.
This is on Resolve 17.4.5
I’ve tried changing the timeline to cinemascope, the clips to square, un-linking re-relinking the proxies, conforming the timeline’s clips to the proxies using “loose name matching” and creating proxies at full resolution instead of half. Nothing seems to work.
The issue occurs only with the Proxies method, the Optimized Media method translates all attributes without problem, but remains a 2nd choice solution since proxies are better for project sharing.
Am I missing something obvious? Is this a confirmed software limitation and if so, has it been fixed in version 17.4.6 or 18? It seems that telling the proxies to adopt the same size and ratio as the source set in the timeline should be just as simple if not more than adopting its color calibration, which it already does.
Thanks.
