You would use a particle effect of some kind. After Effects has a number of them built in (like CC Particle World), but for something as complex as that, you’d probably want to turn to third party tools like Trapcode Particular.

I came up with a technique using CC Particle World for this:

    need little help.

i tried applying particular trapcode but then element 3d hides below.

anyways i added trapcode P to a solid selected the 3d null of element 3d it follows but the particles are just in 1 strait line rather then emitting from particles from element 3d astroids

They will be separate layers. Don’t put Particular and Element on the same layer.

You’ll have to get clever about how it works. Once you get it looking the way you want, you may need to duplicate your layer of Particular and put one below and one above the E3D layer and use the distance visibility settings to trim them to show up where they’re supposed to.

Alternatively, you can use a depth pass from Element and have one copy of Particular above the main E3D layer.

As to getting them to look like they’re emitting from the asteroid/comet/meteor, just a spherical emitter will probably do the trick, but you can also load 3d objects into Particular as an emitter source.

can you share a simple project element 3d astroid explaining the above i am eager to learn and see please micheal?
