AE macbook thunderbolt -usb
There’s so much conflicting info on thunderbolt/USB speeds and cabling and compatibility. I’ve researched this extensively and I’m still confused. Here’s my assumption, please let me know if this is correct or in error. So I’m using After Effects on a 2019 Macbook pro that says it has Thunderbolt/USB4 ports. I’m assuming this means thunderbolt 3. I’ve connected 2 Lacie USB 3.2 Gen 2 drives which should perform at 20mbps transfer rates. (note these are not 3.2 gen 2×2 at 40mbps) . My computer is seeing the 2 Lacie Rugged drives as connected via the USB 3.1 bus. 3.1? Is this due to the cable?
If I use a thunderbolt cabling will it increase throughput to 20mbps as 3.2 gen 2 should? or is this macbook pro just limited? If I purchase thunderbolt drives from OWC with thunderbolt/USB4 capability and thunderbolt cabling, should I get the 40bps throughput? Thanks. phew..
