  Link pre-comp to outPoint of a footage layer with time-remapping and expressions

  Hi all,

  First time posting on here, so apologies if I have missed any previous discussions that might answer this query!

  Basically, I have been making a lot of dynamic templates in AE, which all started off using a plugin called ‘Templater’. I have moved on to creating Mogrt templates now and for the most part have been able to replicate most of the same features with expressions – except for one.

  Templater gives the user the ability to ‘pin’ one layer’s inPoint to another layer’s outPoint. This was really useful if you wanted to have a video clip be replaceable in the middle of a comp, without knowing how long the new clip will be. This feature automatically adjusted the following layers so that they always started at the right time (or overlapped the previous layer by a certain amount if a transition was required).

  From digging around and playing with some found expressions I have seen that this might be possible by using time remapping on pre-comps and then using an expression to link these keyframes the outpoint of the video clip in question.

  However, nothing I have found has specifically done this and I don’t know where to start creating my own expression :-s

  So far, I have expressions that either link the keyframes themselves to the inPoint and outPoint of the layer (instead of just playing from the outpoint) or an expression that moves the keyframes to the end of the comp (which is OK if this precomp is going to the be the last thing in the timeline, not so great if it is not!).

  So, wondered if anyone might be able to help?
