Hello to all After effects user here,

I am Dennis, a reader of this nice forum here for a long time and now registered to this great community.
Maybe you can help me with my project:

There’s a technique in Photoshop to wrap pictures or text around other objects in the background. It’s used for example to write text on a blanket. The text seems to be written on it and following the structure. See it here: https://photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/dispmap/dispmap.htm

I’d like to use this technique in a video. A solid should follow the structure of a tree. I know there is an effect called Displacement Map, but the results were not really good. I used this tutorial here:
    https://library.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/displacement.php

My solution now would be to export the video to several PNG files and apply it in Photoshop, but this takes a lot of time. Is there maybe a better solution to get this look with After effects?

    Thanks!

This should work like in Ps and with even more flexibility. Show us the poor result, the required result, and your Ae setup (timeline layer structure and effect controls window for the DM effect)
