Exported MP4 files huge .MOV files issue?
Hi all
I’m trying to export a 30 second silent movie. It contains a few short animations created in AE but exported as AppleProRes4444 .mov files (as I need the alpha and had terrible experiences with the Adobe dynamic link thing). Anyway, all is good, but when I come to export, the file size seems huge >100MB. The movie has to live on a webpage so files like this are just too big.
I’m guessing this has everything to do with the .mov files, is there any way around this? I really don’t want to start replacing everything is there anything I can do in the PP export settings to bring down file size?

What are your mp4 settings you are using to export? And what image size are you exporting to? The mov won’t matter. Everything is getting rendered down and compressed on export. It will be your settings that specify how large a file you get.

Exported as H.264 1080p Encoding as VBR 2pass Target bitrate 15 max 30. size 1920 x 1080
The 30 sec clip is about 100mb mp4. That seems big to me, but I could be wrong? It was a much smaller file size when I us3d dynamic link

File Size is a direct result of bitrate and duration and other factors such as frame rate. It’s math and you can predict your file size. In this case, variable bit rate made your file size lower than it would be with a constant 15mbps. You can bring down the target bitrate if you need a smaller file.

Yes. At 15 with Max 30, you will get a pretty big file. You can get away with something a whole lot closer to 7.5 with Max 10. But I don’t know what target size you are aiming for. If it’s going onto a web site, you can also put it on YouTube or Vimeo or something and just use a player from there. That’s another option.
