    I need to turn the 2d image into the 3d image

    Ive tried masking each section and rotating it in 3d but im finding it very difficult to make sure each section is on the correct axis and actually lining up.

    Think of it as “L” shapes instead of stripes. This way you can create a series of square pre-comps with the L shapes inside and position them in a zig zag (as seen from the top) and rotate the L shapes within the pre-comps to match the desired design.
