New to FCP – Trying to cut section of audio and remove space automatically
I’ve been tasked with converting a slideshow into a video and while I’ve figured out everything I’d like to speed up the process of cutting out audio sections.
I’m currently using the Blade tool to mark the start and the end of the area that I need to remove, then hit the delete key to remove it. I then have to manually drag the audio on the right side to fill the empty space left behind. (the video is just an image of a slide so no problem there).
This takes a long time and a lot of clicking around, I looked for a way to only use the keyboard to remove the space between the audio section but didn’t find anything. I thought maybe using Keyboard Maestro to automate things a bit would work but without keyboard shortcuts in FCPX I don’t think it’s possible.
I’ve uploaded a movie to show what I mean. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Put the audio in a secondary storyline (select the clip and hit command-g). This will then allow automatic ripple editing. Simply range select the section you want to delete (hold r and click and drag the on the audio section you want to remove), then hit delete. You will see the audio will then ripple delete. It’s very quick once you get the hang of it.

I’m glad this worked for @Mau. However, when I select a clip on my primary storyline and press Command+g, FCPX “beeps” at me and does nothing. What might I be doing wrong?
I did find that if I select that clip and the one after it and then press Control+Shift+S (Detach Audio) I can then delete the audio portion of the first clip and the subsequent audio will slide to the left, closing the audio gap. The video of both clips remains as it originally was.

If your clip in on the primary storyline then you don’t need to put it in a storyline, you just have to delete the section you want to remove. But if it’s audio attached to video, then yes, you an to either death the audio, or edit another instance of if below.
