  XMP: Premiere Pro Production + Shared storage

  Hi,

  I’m trying to figure out what is the best process for collaborative editing, using either a NAS or Google Drive File Stream.

  I’m planning on running a PPro Production for a few projects and came across Premiere Gal’s post about it: https://premieregal.com/blog/2020/4/15/new-in-adobe-premiere-pro-spring-2020-productions-amp-public-beta

  In it she writes:

  To create a production, first update your preference to the following:

  First, go to preferences > media and uncheck the following:

  <ul data-rte-list=”default”>

  Write XMP ID to Files on Import

  Write Clips Markers to XMP

  Enable Clip and XMP Meta Linking

  Then, from Preferences > Collaboration

  <ul data-rte-list=”default”>

  Make sure that Enable Project Locking is checked

  Enter a user Name that others see when you open a project, so people will see me as gal

  It got me thinking: What is the correct procedure for XMP metadata handling for collaborative editing, especially when using Production feature?

  The problem is some editors are accessing the project and rushes on a NAS via 10GbE connection, while others are synching and working remotely using Google File Stream..

  What are the implications of turning off ‘Write XMP ID to Files on Import’? From my tests, it seems that if left on and a remote editor is the first editor to import a 5GB media file into PPro via Drive File Stream, not only do they have to download that source footage to local cache but once imported to PPro, that same file has to be uploaded to Drive as PPro has modified the media file with the XMP ID.
