Hello – I have a vector graphic of a bunch of dots making up a map. The dots are all the same size and on a grid. I want to animate the dots so they move around and reform a checkmark. There are over 1,000 layers in illustrator and when I’ve tried to import into AE it’s seriously slowed down my project. Do you know of a plug-in that could help me generate this in AE and then control the dots? Thanks!

Pastiche does this sort of animation very well.

Additionally, you may want to use Shape Layers for the dots instead of the AI file. If things bog down, work in stages by animating 25% of the dots at a time – render that and then piece them together once all four chunks have been pre-rendered. These productivity hacks are suggestions on my part. You will likely have better alternatives once you get going. Good Luck.
