OWC is 8x and Sonnet’s 16x but you need to use the full lane slot.

Maybe I wont need that lane but talk me down please 🙂

    Also noise and SSD compatibility.

I know these products are new so I am hoping we have some brave souls out there that have jumped in deep 😉

I don’t really know as I don’t have either, but it seems like the Sonnet boasts faster speeds. Either way, how can you go wrong? It’s going to be wicked fast storage.

I’ve been using the OWC for months and it’s exactly as advertised. The Sonnet is 16 lanes and twice as fast but needs a full lane slot. It’s a win win situation, either choice will make you happy.

Also, there is no noise with the OWC and I’m using Samsung SSDs.

    Thanks, folks for your input.

Would love to get the fastest SSDs (rated) for the Sonnet, just a PITA locating them up here.

And thanks Herb for the noise report. That seems to be the knock on the OWC.

    Herb which version Samsung?

I noticed the EVO Plus 2TB has to be this years model to work with Mac OS.

The older ones, you would need to flash on a PC box 😛

Ordered the Samsung EVO Plus 2TB (2) via NewEgg.
Crossing fingers its this year’s model.

    Went with the Sonnet Silent.

The only thing I would change would be the NVMe. I have the Sabrent 2T and it’s excellent and considerably cheaper than the EVO Plus.

    Thanks Greg.

The Samsung EVO Plus was on sale and it was a lot cheaper than the Sabrent.

Im in Canada and noticed the Newegg pricing (Sabrent) between US and Canada are almost double 😛

ah, ok. I think you’ll be very happy with the purchase. I have converted to all NVMe for media and it works extremely well.

Looking forward to it. Past experiences are mostly Thunderbolt2.

    Before that SAS.

Honestly never had issues with them but might as well jump into the NVMe pool 🙂
