  • Vector Layer Goes Blurry After Making It 3D

Hello, I have an imported Illustrator file that goes blurry when I make any layer 3D. The layer has ‘collapse transform’ turned on. There is no camera. I have set it to both ‘Off (final resolution)’ and ‘Adaptive Resolution’ with no change. The Illustrator file has not been scaled – it is the same size as it is in Illustrator. I am using the ‘Classic 3D’ renderer and interpret footage has been set to ‘More Accurate.’

If I uncheck 3D it goes perfectly crisp. I can scale it however. But the moment I turn on 3D it goes noticeably fuzzy. It doesn’t matter the scale. It seems like I’ve had this in the past and was able to resolve it, but I can’t seem to figure it out this time.

    Any help is appreciate it.

hard to guess…how long have you been using after effects? maybe a screenshot would help. You are at 100% or less on your window right?

Richard, thanks for the response. As I got working with it I noticed that when I would move the layer in z-space it would go sharp (and sometimes blurry). In all, it wasn’t as noticeable when I moved the layer in z-space. Not sure why. But if I left it in the original position, or even in some position on the z-axis, it goes blurry. It just wasn’t enough to worry about in the final animation so I left it alone.

For reference I attached the exported comp. The left side is vector w/o 3d and the right with 3d.

    Thanks again for the response.

you are right. 3d vector layers do get a softer anti-aliasing. I think this was always the case.
