Hi all. We have a project we’re working on that will require some Rotoscoping. Three or four shots, a locked off shot of a skyline, one where the camera moves, one where the camera is locked off and an object in frame is moving.

I’ve basically narrowed my software choices down to Silhoutte FX (AE plug-in) and Combustion. My question is what do people here recommend? Is Combustion very difficult to learn? Silhoutte FX seems to be the “down and dirty” choice — quick and fast. If all I’m doing is rotoscoping, and perhaps a little painting, should I go with Silhoutte FX or is it worth it to learn Combustion? Also, I’ll probably have to do some keying. Would this make Combustion worth it?

    Any feedback is really appreciated.

Whenever I’ve had to do roto work I’ve used AE by itself. I have very little experience, even with this.

However there was just recently a script here on the COW that might help you: https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=2&postid=866624&pview=t#head Try it and see how it works.

I hesitate to put easy and rotoscope in the same sentence. Having said that, the answer to your question sort of depends on how complex the object you are rotoscoping and how often you plan to do this. Combustion has a learning curve to it, although I think it’s a fine tool. Have you tried doing this just with AE? What problems did you encounter?
