March 30, 2009 at 8:42 pmvery nice kinematics. Reminds me of the 3-d camera improvements they made in the tv show Battlestar Galactica.

March 31, 2009 at 1:50 pmCan you tell a little bit about how you made it? Was that all AfterEffects? Or any other tools as well? I liked the multiplanar parts with 3-d perspective. I also liked the color pallette choices.
Also, put me down as well as someone that prefers that not every moment of a music video be exactly representing the lyrics at all times, but this is a personal aesthetic choice.

March 31, 2009 at 2:58 pmyes this is only after-effects even for 3d part, i first start with maya for this project.
But i’m really more efficient with after-effects and i had to long rendering time with maya so i finally abandonned.I also use photoshop and illustrator for preparing layers.
I understand your opinion about representing the lyrics, but the words of this song seems to be a litle too abstract for my french english 😉
But i’m totally agree with you and i will try to make a real story for my next clip.thank you very much for your constructive comment.

April 1, 2009 at 4:40 pmIt is fascinating to watch the unfolding actions. I am a big fan of cut-paper art and this reminds me of pop-up style books very much. I can’t even imagine how complciated the comp timeline looks for this. Understood about the 3d CGI being time consuming. When you get a moment, I at least would like to hear a description of your workflow process, how you built the items and how you put this whole thing together, step by step. Your AE skills are most impressive to me.
Bon chance, mssr.

April 3, 2009 at 11:21 amhello,
i prepared all the footage with illustrator and photoshop.
To integrated them in after-effects i used two method. For all bitmap footage, i simply import the psd in A-E.
For vector work, i also use another method.
When i finish a footage i copy all points ( command + A, command+C) in illustrator.
in after effects, i create a new shape layer (or a solid, but shape layer have more control), and i paste my point from illustrator.
with this method i could edit my points with after-effects, and also create some cool effects with the “stroke” effect for example.
My illustrator work become a mask in after-effects.For the pop up effect, it’s quite simple, i just play with the rotate settings.
At the end with the path with all the numbers i used some expressions for changing the numbers randomly.
For the fog i used a “fog factory” plug-in form digidesign, but it’s only a 2d fog. So i needed to create more than 40 layers of fog with animated opacity.i also used particules from trapcode for the fireworks with numbers.
for the old movie style, i use a real white screen 8mm footage, and i compose it on top of my comp in multiply mode, and i also blur edges of my outpout pass.
Another secret of this project, i didn’t worked in HD, but i used “intant HD” from red giant for upscalling.
At the end i had more than 5000 layers, with comp and pre-comp. The most important is to keep your projects organize.
The rendering process with not so long, i only used my macbook pro dual core 2.4ghz with 4gig of ram for this clip and the rendering.
i hope that i answer correctly, if you have another questions don’t hesitate.
