    Hi

I want to use the Xena on a pc for capturing from my JVC HD100 camera, but it seems as if the only codec available is Cineform’s Prospect HD in conjuction with Premier Pro 2.

Is this correct? How could I use Xena with, for example, Sheer Video Lossless codec?

    Thanks

    Trevor

If you do some testing you will find Prospect HD’s codec close enough to mathematically lossless. Plus you are capture over analog connection from a HD100, you will lose far more in the cable than you will in compression.

You could also just capture the HDV MPEG2 video via FireWire – the Xena board is able to play out HDV MPEG2 thru the board with realtime color effects.

Slowly I suspect. The CineForm codec is good enough to online a feature film (and it’s fast enough to make the editing process pretty succinct), I struggle to realize a situation that is more demanding than that save heavy effects work, but if you were into heavy effects, I doubt you’d be shooting HDV…
