AJA Io Problems
I’m working at a client who has a couple of AJA Ios hooked up to 2.0 GHz DP G5s, running OS 10.4.11, with FCP 5.1.4.
When playing back through the Io, the video plays for about 12 seconds, then flickers, and goes out. If I cycle the power on the Io and then toggle off and then on the external video, it will come back for another 12 seconds.
This happens with two different Ios, and two different computers. It simply doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know when the last time was that they successfully used the Ios since most of their work is presently done in HD. But they do have a definite need of it now.
Any ideas what rock I ought to look under?

I’d start by first uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest io drivers and firmware. Then open the control panel and see if you can get a stable signal out of the io.

Well, I downloaded what I thought was the latest drivers and firmware. And I went through the uninstall process. However, it never prompted me for a firmware upgrade, so I guess I’m doing something wrong.
The frustrating thing is that I tried two different AJAs on two different computers and I got the same results from the four combinations. I suspect it may have something to do with our various versions of operating systems, Quicktime versions or something like that.
It’s highly unlikely that two AJAs would fail in similar ways at the very same time.
The other possibility would be how we have it hooked up, but that is really pretty simple.
Do you know how to go about forcing a firmware update?

I would agree. It makes me think that you don’t have the right software in place.
