When I try to paste a mask as in to a layer as a motion path as described in the help file it will 99% of the time be pasted in as a mask. If I copy a path in Illustrator (or create a mask in After Effects without deselect it) and past it directly into the position property it works great, but otherwise it will be pasted as an additional mask. So now the solution has been to copy the mask from AE and paste it into Illustrator, then copy it in Illustrator and paste it into AE. I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing wrong. Can anybody explain what I do wrong, please?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

Twirl down the mask properties, and instead of copying the “mask” copy “mask shape” Now you should be able to use that as your path.
