I’m trying to digitize some old 3/4″ footage from a Sony deck into Final Cut, and I keep having this one problem that I can’t overcome. I can control the deck in FCP, but it will not show the video on the preview monitor in the capture tool. The IO box is showing the correct lights (composite, firewire, ntsc), and I have no problems controlling it any way I need. I have current drivers, and I have the AJA control panel v 1.1. Any ideas? Is this a Final Cut problem or AJA?

    Thanks.

Do you have the correct capture settings in the Audio/Video settings menu? As there is a huge selection it’s easy to get them mixed up. If they are right, sometimes it pays to select something different and hit OK then go back and re-select the one you need.

Yeah, I’m certain that I have the right settings.

    Control: AJA IO RS-422 NTSC
Capture: AJA IO 8-bit composite to US NTSC DV

I’ve tried multiple varieties of combinations with different composites. I’ve also tried selecting different settings and opening and closing Final Cut. I’ve also rebooted the G5 many times. It’s always the same.

Hmmm best start with some basic troubleshooting. Cables first. If you connect the video out cable from the 3/4 deck to a monitor instead of to the AJA, are you seeing picture on the monitor? Do you have blackburst being sent to the 3/4 and the AJA? Does it need to be terminated? Have you ad previous success capturing with the AJA in any other modes?

Thanks for the tips. We figured it out. It was some more settings in FCP that we hadn’t tried. We didn’t realize that you needed to set the video playback as well to get a signal displaying in log and capture. Seems kind of wierd to me, but oh well.
