  • Control panel conflicting with FCP???

Posted by Tim Baker on August 3, 2005 at 1:39 pm

It appears that I am having a conflict between the I/O LA control panel and FCP 5.0.2.

I loose audio monitoring from the I/O LA and sometimes loose video monitoring and the only way to get it back is to save and shut down FCP…open the control panel…reset settings…then open FCP again and seems like it will be fine for awhile.

It happened most yesterday as I was doing a digitizing session.

Any suggestions? Is this a bug? Is there a fix?

I also have the Kona2 with the Kbox…are there issues with it, as well? I have not had opportunity to use it as I am waiting for my JVC HD100 and deck.

All my firmware and control panels are the latest from the AJA website.

    Thanks,

If your are running the stand alone Control Panel App. and FCP at the same time…well,I’m not sure if you can do that.
I think that FCP will have “priority” over the Control Panel and they will fight each other. Try running only one or the other at a time.
At least I think I remember reading this somewhere.

So clear something up for me…what is the control panel actually for?

Is it primarily for just loop through control on I/O devices? And when you are editing just use FCP?

That must be it, but I have had to futz with the control panel to get my external monitor of video…hmmmm.

    I am so confused…lol.

The control panel allows you to use the Io without needing another application, like Final Cut, to control it. I use it for making dubs from one tape format to another one. For instance, I used it yesterday to make Time Code window dubs from MiniDV to a DVD recorder so a client could review the footage we shot. Once you assign the input to the Io, that signal is output thru all of the connectors, essentially making the Io into a distribution amp.
I believe that it can also enable the Io to be used as a basic frame sync for dubbing non timebase correct materials, such as VHS.
As I understand it, whenever another application, again such as FCP, is launched it “takes” control of the Io away from the control panel app. and turns it over to that application.

Simply, the Control Panel allows use of the Io as a stand alone device.

That is cool…I was thinking that must be the case. It has just really been giving me fits.

I like the ability to use it stand alone. I am coming from the old blackmagic and the Promax DAMax box that all I had to do is set a couple of switches and taaaadaaaa…the loop through or output that I wanted. Not used to having to set a software switch.

Thanks for clarifying for me…I Love the Cow!!!
