I need to recreate a commercial for a client and though I could probably get away with a different transition, I would really like to use the same one he already has, or at least be able to, in case he is married to this one. I’m almost positive all of this was done in LiveType and Final Cut Pro, or maybe Motion, but I don’t have Motion (we’re still on Final Cut Pro prior to Studio here… don’t ask) I have access to Motion elsewhere, if it’s absolutely necessary, but I would like to use After Effects instead if it’s not a FCP plugin.

    The transition is here:

and below, in color. Also, I have simulated the particles in this using Livetype, but I’m not sure if that is how they were originally created or if someone knows of a plugin for that as well.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Ron, I would use particle illusion. Im 90% sure that is what they used, especially on the second
animation. I love that program, its so versatile. You may want to ask this same question on the particle illusion forum, and ask them which emitters to use.

    I’ll check that out.

Does particle illusion affect text or images like this is doing though? I mean, it’s using the color values of the images/text to color the sparkles in the transition. I was under the impression that it was only a particle generator.

yes is the answer. 2 ways. Output your particles in PI and in after effects use an overlay and luminance
composting mode. Or import your scene INTO PI and you can set the particles to take on the color of the
    background image…..

    Hi Ron,

Did you ever find out how this was achieved in Particle illusion?

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Andy

Yeah, actually… it’s kinda funny now, but we finally figured out that it was done in….

    wait for it…..

    KEYNOTE!!!

So we ended up using Keynote to do the presentation parts of the video (so as to replicate what they already had with new info) and editing in the commercials we did for them. WHAT A PAIN. Keynote doesn’t like to output video that Final Cut Pro is happy with.

I wonder if Apple will ever fix that?
