AJA Kona LHi with KL Box

We’ve just recently upgraded our machines and have had to purchase a new capture card. So we’ve got ourselves a Kona LHi card that’s running into our old KL Box via SDI.
Everything’s working fine… almost. The problem I’ve run into is to capture footage I have to have the output from the box plugged into the SDI Out 2, but to print out to tape it has to be plugged into the SDI Out 1, otherwise the video and audio glitches heavily. When the cables are in their right places though, everything’s working fine.
What I’m wondering is if this is just a frailty of combining old and new technology together or whether there is a setting that I’m missing here.
We’re running SDI to our DigiBeta Deck, which both our editing machines are connected to through various matrix switches.

The LHi only has one sdi out. You should invest in the LHi box if you’re using the LHi.

Yes I know we should invest in one… maybe one day soon!
But what I find confusing is we were only using one of the SDI outputs when we were using the old gear, the other SDI out, while plugged into the card, was never plugged into the box.
Is someone able to explain to me how this is working and how the output needs to be different for capturing then printing to tape?

I guess I’m a bit confused as to what exactly you’re trying to do.
What card did you have before? Must have been a Kona3x? Why use the wrong kl box?

Right then. Let me try and explain it again. Made sense in my head!
So what we used to have was a Kona AJA LH capture card which went into the KL Box and from there went out to the deck and monitoring system. While the LH card had two SDI outputs, only one of them was plugged into the KL Box.
Now we’ve upgraded the capture card to a Kona AJA LHi capture card. The only difference to the setup we had before is now there is only 1 SDI output on the capture card – nothing has changed on the KL Box.
What I’m asking is now for me to capture footage, the SDI out on the KL Box has to be plugged into the SDI out 2. But if I want to print to tape I have to change the cable from the SDI out 2 on the KL Box to SDI out 1. Is this just simply because we have the wrong KL Box for the capture card or is there some setting that can fix that?
What I’m not understanding is why I have to change the output cables all the time on the KL Box.
Hopefully that clarifies what I’m asking.

Daniel,
You are simply using the incorrect breakout box for the KONA card that you have in your system. The breakout box for the KONA LH/LHe products should not be used with the KONA LHi; the two products differ as you yourself note.The appropriate breakout box for your LHi is listed on our website, KLHi-Box for KONA LHi:
