Shatter effect start time
Posted by Mike Barrow on June 24, 2008 at 6:35 pmI’m new to after effects. I am doing a shatter effect of a photo of my sons little league team. My compostion is 7 sec’s long. I want the shatter effect to take place at the 2 sec mark. How can I do that instead of having the effect start at the beginning of the 7 seconds.
Thanks Mike

June 24, 2008 at 6:54 pmHi, Mike. Set your radius to zero. and keyframe it to the size you want at the 2 second mark.

June 24, 2008 at 7:21 pmOk I’ll give that a shot. Now this may sound crazy but while I was playing around in the time line panel i was able to adjust where the effect started. Inside the layer bar I noticed a series of small dots. If I left cliked and held the botton on the mouse I was able to slide it to the point in the composition that i wanted the effected to start. Wherever i placed those series of dots is where the effect started. Tried it the next day and could never duplicate it. Does this make sence?
Thanks for the helpMike

June 24, 2008 at 10:05 pmI dont have it in front of me, but yes that makes sense. You have an origin and one other setting for 2
shatter ‘zones’. Basically, it sounds like your playing around with the settings. For many, thats how you learn the ins and outs of some of these plugins.Shatter can accomplish a LOT of different looks besides a “shatter”, just think outside the box a little (I hate that phrase : )

June 25, 2008 at 1:39 amThanks Scott. Took your advise and it works. I have one more question for you though. I want to post this on my sons baseball web site so I rendered it as an automated GIF. How do I get the gif to keep shattering on a continuos cycle. Right now it goes through the effect once and then stops.
Again thanks for taking the time help out a not to computer savy DadMike
