  • AJA KONA LHi – FCP Playback Thru HDMI to SAMSUNG LED Issues

I’m trying to get playback thru my AJA KONA LHi via FCP to my Samsung LED. I’m connected thru HDMI.

I’m seeing video in my viewer and on my screen when my footage is paused, but when I hit play, the footage on my monitor goes green and pixelated.

If I scrub, play at 2x speed or higher, or play in reverse I can see playback on monitor, but standard play is messed up. Ideas?

    FCP Sequence settings:
    frame size 960×720
    Editing TIme Base 59.94

    Audio/Video Settings
Sequence Preset: DVCPRO HD – 720p30

Video Playback: aja Kona 720p59.94 10 Bit (1280×720)

In terms of video playback I’ve tried every setting under the sun and have been unable to get playback.

    did you make this preset?
playback should be aja Kona 720p59.94 8 Bit (1280×720)

Use the AJA Kona LHI 720p23.98 VFR easy setup.

This will get you playback, but any new sequence you make will be 23.98 fps. you will have to either drag a 29.97fps clip into that empty timeline and accept the change, or change the fps yourself before adding a new clip. You can then modify an AJA preset for 29.97fps VFR footage by suing the 23.98 templates as your guide.

DVCPro HD is 8bit so you need the 8bit output setting.

    Thanks fellas.

Would either of you mind explaining the reasoning behind that adjustment?

As mentioned before, Dvcpro HD is an 8 bit format. You had 10 bit output. There was a mismatch in what was needed to properly play back the footage.
