Will LHi Convert 1080 23.98 psf to 29.97 1080i?
Just installed Kona LHi in Quadcore G5 tower 10.5.8. with 7.0.1 Control panel. Noticed that there is no conversion from 1080 23.98 psf to 29.97 1080i. Thought that was available on my ioHD. Is there no way to cross convert these formats with the LHi? I would think they are about the same data rates. My problem immediately is that my HD monitor does not seem to support 24p frame rates. This was no problem with the ioHD as I monitored in 29.97. Must output be rendered?

Change the video output of FCP to 1080i29.97 in the view menu.

Hi Jeremy,
That does indeed work,(thanks) as does 23.98 monitoring from FCP 6.0.6. Monitor is a LaCie 324, and LaCie verified, and I have now personally checked that it does support 23.98 and 24p from FCP via HDMI. Just wondered why that conversion is not in the AJA 7.0.1 control panel? (23.98 1080psf to 29.97 1080i). Footage is from EX1, BTW.
Just got the board in a Media 100 Suite 1.0.2 package as OEM. Exactly the same board. Trying to figure out why the M100 has a problem displaying the 23.98 psf on this monitor but that is another question. M100 is being quite helpful, but no answer yet.

That’s the way it’s always been done. I don’t think this process has ever been done in the control panel.

Found out that the LaCie 324 (as do many other LCD monitors) does not support Psf. It does have a good Faroujda deinterlacer. My solution was to purchase the AJA Hi5-3G SDI to HDMI Psf to true progressive mini- converter, the better choice for progressive use. It also supports 3G. If you need a scaler or deinterlacer, i.e. you edit primarily interlace, the HDP2 by AJA would be the better choice. My experience with the HI5-3G has been excellent.
