I have a requirement from a client to take an HDV program (1080i50 HDV FCP timeline) and output it to DVCProHD as 1080i50. Using a Panasonic AJ-HD1200A fed through a MacPro with a Kona3.

Is this possible? Anyone done it?

I haven’t done this with HDV, but it shouldn’t be a problem as long as the deck has SDI for input.

Yep, used to do this all the time before ProRes came along. We always converted our HDV Material to DVCPro HD during ingest via the Kona 3’s. Same with output, though you don’t need to necessarily convert it to DVCPro HD, the deck will do that.

Just set up your system for HDV Playback through the AJA Kona 3 to feed the deck SDI. The deck is just receiving an HD-SDI stream, it doesn’t care what original signal is, it will record it just fine. Of course if you need accurate TC start on that 1200A you need to know the proper TC offset for that particular unit.
