Posted by Wim Tops on August 1, 2009 at 1:06 pm

‘ve just installed my kona LHE card ( previous in my G5 quad 2.5 ) in slot 2 of my new mac pro 2.26 8 core.
    I’ve installed the newest drivers…..
Now at startup my mac crashes!

I’ve also tried the NDD version of the driver…..same problem.
I tried to install the card in slot 3….the mac won’t even make a startup sound anymore.

I’ve read something about a firmware update that is located in the aja utilities folder.
Can’t find the updater!!!! Not in my folder.

    please help..

    thanks

this is my suggestion to you (as the AJA drivers drove me nuts until I got the NDD drivers loaded in correcly).

Yank all cards. Fire up your MAC with NO CARDS. Go to AJA Utilities, and UNINSTALL all the AJA drivers. Reboot. Are you ok now ? OK, with no cards in the system, download again the NDD drivers for the LHe. Reboot. Are you still ok ?

Open your MAC, and install the LHe card in either slot 3 or 4 (both work – don’t go into slot 2). You should be fine. Report back.

    Hi Bob,

I’ve tried the above with 6.5 and the 6.0.3 NDD drivers.
    Nothing works..
The mac starts up with the drivers …no problem.
But once I put the card in slot 3 or 4 the mac won’t even give a startup sound no more ( black screen ).

What is strange the mac used to crash at startup if I put the card in slot 2.
Now it boots just fine….only : when I open my AJA controlpanel it says : DEVICE OFFLINE.
    HARDWARE MISSING

    I don’t get it!

well, it sounds like your card is bad. I have only installed Kona LHi and Kona 3 into the new Mac’s (not an LHe), so I ASSUME that the drivers work. If your card prevents the comptuer from booting up, it sounds like the card.

Call AJA on the phone (DO NOT EMAIL THEM) on Monday morning, tell them what we just did (uninstall and reinstall the drivers, test the MAC, then install the card, and no bootup). They will send you a replacement card.

Please post what happens on Monday after you talk with them.

    Hi Bob,

When I put the card back into my old G5 quad…it works.
So I think the card is ok.

you have “allegedly” done a clean install (you DID uninstall the old drivers from your new MAC first, and then REINSTALLED the drivers – is this correct). Then you rebooted, then installed the NDD drivers again. It booted up ok. You then put in the Kona LHe card, and the computer would not start (in slots 3 and 4). But it now works in your old G5 Quad ?

This is pretty bizarre. It’s time for a call to AJA.

this is my last suggestion before I give up –
go to your new computer, and do this –

    /library/preferences
    find the file called –
    com.ajaKonaPreferences.plist, and delete it.

Shut down your computer. Now, put in your LHe into slot 4 (instead of 3, just to try something different). Can you boot up now ?

[wim tops] “When I put the card back into my old G5 quad…it works.

The firmware on the card needs to be updated for the new computer and OS.

YOU will need update the firmware BEFORE installing in the new computer. Or boot into safe mode and install the firmware on the card after it is installed.

it is NOT a bad card, it is Operator error.

    Hi,

Can you tell me where I can find the firmware updater…it’s not in my AJA utilities folder.
    Can’t find it anywhere.

Can you give me the web link where I can download it?

    thanks

    Hi Bob hope you’re well,

With regards to the above problem which was posted a while back I wondered if there was any current fix to this issue.

I’m having the exact problem as above, I have got a Kona LHe from an old G5 and have a 2009 macpro.

I installed the newest NDD’s V 8.1.1 shut down i put the card in the PCIe slot 2 rebooted and it crashes at startup (screen wipes down with reboot message)

Boots up fine without the card and beginning to think it’s a card issue as the are no firmware updates for the LHe

Out of curiosity did the guy get back to you after calling Kona with a fix
    Kind regards

    Chris
