    Hi all –

I’m working on a project in China. We shot on P2 – DVCPRO HD 720pN but we’re delivering to a Chinese TV station and outputting to Beta IMX. We have to output 4:3 for Chinese television and downconvert to SD through the SDI out on our Kona LHe.

How do I get the best quality of my downconvert to SD through my Kona card. For my first output, I changed our video out setting within FCP and did not change the settings on the Kona control panel. Does this mean I’m doing a software downconvert when I should be doing a hardware downconvert with the Kona card?

Also – We are subtitling the project in the letterbox that we create from the conversion to 4:3 from 16:9. Should we adjust our sequence settings in FCP (maybe drop the HD sequence into a 4:3 PAL frame at ProRes 422 (HQ), thus allowing us to control what we put in the letterbox? Will this affect our quality substantially?

    Thanks,

    Patrick in Shanghai

just do it all through the aja control panel, set it manually.

it doesn’t always conform to the fcp settings when outputting
to a broadcast monitor, but you have other settings in the aja
panel you must set to do what you want with it.

    its all there for ya.
