  Can’t digitise clearly from DSR1500 through Kona SDI

  Hi –

  Im currently having problems with the SDI connections on my Kona LHe. Im not sure whether its a hardware of software problem.

  Problem:
  I’m trying to digitise SDI out from a DSR1500 DV deck. SDI output from deck connected to the Kona with blackburst. When digitising on FCP a green flicker appears just on one frame at a time randomly throughout the tape.

  What I’ve done:
  I’ve tried to eliminate all the possibilities by testing the system in various ways.
  – Connecting SDI out from the deck into the monitor – everything seems fine.
  – Connecting a J3 to the FCP and digitise seems fine no problems.
  – Connected the DSR1500 deck to Avid and digitise – seems fine.
  – Checked settings on the FCP and the Kona software.
  – Ensured all the cables are properly connected.
  – Tried using different SDI cables.
  – Tried another DSR1500 deck and same problems occured, this makes me think it may be a software issue?

  Do you have any suggestions? im really stuck!

  Please give more info about your setup, QT/FCP/Kona versions. Anything that is connected to your mac.

  1) close FCP
  2) open AJA Control Panel
  3) plug AJA LHe output into your TV monitor (analog or SDI ?)
  4) open Control tab in AJA Control Panel – select INPUT PASSTHROUGH
  5) open INPUT tab in AJA Control Panel – select SDI 1
  6) open FORMAT tab in AJA Control panel – select format for both primary and secondary to be NTSC 525
  7) plug in J3 or J30 SDI output to the SDI input of your Kona LHe. Play the tape. Do you see a picture on your TV monitor ? Does the AJA Control Panel on the input tab indicate that you are getting a video input that is NTSC 525 ?

  8) if this works, simply plug in your DSR1500 SDI out to the input of your AJA LHe. pop in the tape, and hit play. Do you see a picture – yes or no ? Do you see that the control panel sees a video input that is NTSC 525 ? Yes or no ?

  Let me know. Stop doing all tests with FCP until this works.

  Hi Bob –

  I went through the steps but using PAL settings as im editing in PAL.

  I got a picture on the monitor and the AJA Control Panel detects the correct input. I can get the DSR1500 to appear and work in FCP but when i do i get the odd extra frame appearing/overlapping on the footage.

  Any other ideas??

  Hi Jeremy –

  my setup is:
  – MAC OSX v10.5.1
  – FCP v6.0
  – Kona LHe – AJA Control Panel 5.0
  – QuickTime v7.3
  – I also have a Kramer blackburst/colour bar generator connected.

  Im editing in PAL trying to digitise uncompressed 8-bit. As mentioned before, i am able to digitise from other DVCAM decks but it seems that whatever is causing the problem doesnt like the DSR-1500P. I also got in another DSR-1500P to test it out and it also had the same problems.

  Any advice/help would be amazing!!
