30 minute show, shot and edited with DVCProHD 720pn footage in a 23.98 sequence, now ready to deliver and need to send a DBeta to the closed captioning place (HD masters will be made for future distribution but this first run is 16:9 letterboxed SD). 2 options:

    1. output directly to DBeta, adding pulldown with the Kona 3

    2. output to DVCProHD tape, then use the deck’s downconvert output and dub to DBeta

Is there a better choice out of these two and if so, why? Thanks for any input-

You should do a test and see.

There’s many ways to down convert. The Kona offers real time down convert in hardware and does a decent job. If you have thin text in HD, is might cause a bit of ringing in SD.

I’ve done it both ways. To me the Kona downconvert looks better.
