  Kona LHe capture closed captioning need help

  My set up: MacPro with Final Cut Pro 6.0.1, Kona LHe, Sony Beta (UVW-1800) via component

  My issue: I’m attempting to capture a tape with closed captioning, edit, and export via the Beta deck and to keep closed captioning in tact. No matter which capture preset I use, it seems to be lacking the CC.

  Let me know if you have any suggestions..Is this a FCP issue? a Kona issue? or am I missing something glaringly obvious.

  I think we had to use an Uncompressed format to preserve the CC. Any of the DV flavors seemed to remove it. Hope that helps.

  This would make sense as DV codec cuts at 486 lines,, and proper uncompressed is 525 with a few of the extra lines that are outside of viewable carrying the cc text info…

  could be wrong,,, dont do any CC,,, just trying to remember when we touched on the subject in Broadcast Tech class some many years ago…
