Kona 3 hanging up

Dual Quad macPro
FCP 6.01
Sanman RaidIm trying to digitise Digi Beta into a large project.
The project is mostly HD > Apple ProRes ~ 50 hrs
with some DV, HDV and Digi BEta
I captured a couple of hours of Digi Beta in 2 weeks ago but it had an interlace problem.
We have the deck back and I want to recapture that stuff correctly and also some new stuff.I cant seem to capure more than a 3 second grab.
Ive been trying for hours on different settings but Im stumped
Any ideas?regards

The 3 second grab has nothing to do with the Kona and everything to do with your drive setup. Generally that is a result of dropped frames due to slow drives. I’ve not heard of Sanman Raid.

Walter,
In theory, Patrick’s drive setup should fly — Sanman raids use up to 16 SATA drives with a U320 SCSI controller. He has 4Tb according to his profile. After looking at his other posts I’m guessing he’s got a hardware issue such as his PCI configuration or drivers.
As you suggest, he should run the Drive Speed test first to see what kind of throughput he’s getting.

Kona 3 DMA Write 112mbs read 135mbs
Sanman @ 512 MB – write 137mbs / read 76mbs
read exisitng file – 222 mbsshould I download kona drivers and reinstall?

Those numbers are not actually very good Patrick. For example, the numbers I’m geting here are:
single SATA drive – write 41mbs / read 38mbs
two SATA drives striped – write 78mbs / read 74mbs
4 SATA drives striped – write 178mbs / read 190mbsHow many drives do you have striped together?

Why not give it a try, the latest updates messed up my Kona drivers. Uninstall first and then reinstall the latest drivers. The uninstaller is in your Kona applications folder.

The biggest factors are, 1) you might need the latest drivers for your raid controller, 2) your raid is getting full, 3)one of your drives is dying and is slowing down all others.

what would you recommend as optimum max capaxity?”That’s WAY too full. At 75% full, any array takes a speed hit. At 90% full, many arrays will have issues with capture and playback.
One of my biggest questions for you is how long have you been using this array since the last time you erased it? Fragmentation will play a big issue as you fill up the array.
I think your array is simply too full. Is there anything you can get rid of? Do you have any other drives you can dump the media off on to so you can erase your array to clean it up?

the array was bought specifically for this project so it hasnt been erased before and Im hoping fragmentation is at a minimum.
However
there is still 1/3 of the project to capture in ProRes .Im afraid its a case of first time director not being able to make decisions until he sees drafts etc and not wanting to be ruled by technical considerations so is capturing virtually everything and keping it.
I was going to ask for more HD space this week.
As Ass Editor i suppose
I must be more insistent about the process and put foot down on these type of issues because they wont know if I dont tell, right.

Walter is correct…
Remember, you heard it here first, a full SATA array is neither good for man nor machine.
