Ok so I have a self contained DVCPRO HD 23.98p quicktime file that needs to be outputted to a BetaSP tape. I’m a bit confused getting the settings in FCP 5.14 and the kona control panel correct to output this. I’m confused becaseu in the kona control panel 720p24 is not an option. However the Kona presets in FCP do have a 720p24 video option for video output. is the Kona 2 not capable of dealing with this footage natively?

I tried setting the 720p24 option for output in FCP but it doesn’t seem to be getting to my deck. i set the KOna control panel to downconvert to 575i60 on that SDI output. Odlly enough when I’m in the control panel I see a single frame coming out of the deck that looks correct but when I switch back to FCP it’s gone.

I know I’m probably just missing a setting somewhere. Can anyone help?

Ok I figured out a workaround by throwing the clip on a 720p59.94 sequence and rendering a bit I got the playback to work. I’d still prefer not to add another level of renderingif possible. Is there a way to get the 24p to work with the downconvert?

    peter..

there is no video format that is 720p24.

AS with SD footage, 24P is embedded into the 60p stream for 720,
Just as 24p SD becomes 60i when you output.

The Kona 3 setting you refer to is for realtime conversion of 720p24 directly to 1080 24sf

Well this isn’t from a video it’s a QT file I was given so I’d assume the pulldown was removed already. the file is definately at 23.98 right now My main concern is then is having FCP re-render the clip in a 59.97p sequence going to look ok? Or should I run it through cinema tools instead?

Put your 23.98 QT into a matching sequence – DVCPro HD 720p 23.98. Set the Final Cut video playback to 720p 59.94 8-bit. The card will now add the necessary pulldown to your 23.98 material. Lastly, in the Kona control panel, right-click the SDI 1 output and choose 525 29.97 so the card downconverts your 720p 59.94 signal. All done.

    Good luck.
