Kona lhe: dvcproHD out
Posted by Tommaso Cicognani on May 7, 2007 at 8:03 amhi all,
I started editing footage 720p in FCP in5.1 timeline(material shooted with the Hvx200). I set the timeline setting on dvcpro hd720 and all is OK.
Then I use the Aja kona LHE to send my video out to an external boardcast video(SD)to make color correction but I can see only still frames and not video. why? Should I set FCP in a diferent manner?Walter Biscardi replied 19 years ago 5 Members · 9 Replies -

May 7, 2007 at 11:26 amIf you have an SD monitor, you need to set the Kona card to down-convert the signal. You do this in the Kona Control Panel, NOT Final Cut Pro. Look at the documentation that came with the Kona card as this explains very nicely how to set your outputs up to downconvert.

May 7, 2007 at 3:27 pmWhat is the Video Playback in FCP (Audio/Video Setting) set to ? It must be the same 720 format that you have set for your timeline. And set the Kona Control Panel to downconvert to SD.
What frame rate is this 720 timeline running coz downconvert doesn’t work on every frame rate.

I’ve worked in 23.98, 25, 30 and 59.94 and all of them play out / downconvert just fine because the output from the system is always 59.94.

May 7, 2007 at 4:27 pmthnak for your answers but the problem persist. I set the Kona (in its control panel): primary format: 720p50
secondary (converted) format: 625i25
In analog out I set:
anologue output fomat: secondary 625i25
and in the control panel appear the icon of downconversion. In FCP the timeline is set in DvcproHd:
frame size: HD (960×720)
Pixel ascpect ratio960x720
etc..
In the video out panel (under view,videoplayback..)I set
Aja kona 720P50 8bit (1280×720)(I tried to put also Aja Kona 625i25…but the problem persist).Thank you for your patience and I ask your pardon if these aswers are so stupid.
thanks

May 7, 2007 at 5:42 pmHi there,
I’m having the same problem with a Kona 2 and 720p25. It plays on my HD monitor but won’t downconvert to my SD monitor under the correct settings in FCP and Kona control panel.
The Kona rep said it was an Apple glitch that they’re working on fixing. The workaround he gave me was to copy the sequence to an uncompressed 8 bit 720p25 timeline and use the 720p 8 bit Kona Video out setting. Very slow and lots of rendering involved but it plays in SD now.
Also a huge hassle to get from the P2 cards into fcp (compared to NTSC) at 25fps but that’s a whole other story.Gerry

May 7, 2007 at 8:16 pmYes it does seem like Apple trouble in PAL land once again!

May 8, 2007 at 4:19 amI think it’s because FCP doesn’t support 720p25 yet.

May 8, 2007 at 12:11 pmI believed that with the version 5.0.1 Apple would have solved that issue…in my opinion its a shame that Apple havn’t yet fixed this problem

They did, it’s not out yet. It’s call Final Cut Pro 6. From the Tech Specs:
HD at 1080i 50/60, 1080p 23.98/24/25, and 720p 23.98/25/30/60
