  Kona 3 with apple precision codec soon??

  Hello all,

  Heading towards the purchase of a new video card and octo tower.

  Has the Kona 3 been around long enough for AJA to refresh the device allowing for support of the Apple precision HD codec on board. I would wait for that.

  Like a car gets a refresh every couple of model years with small incremental improvements??

  If you are referring to ProRes422 support, the Kona3 will support the codec when FCS 2 is released and the codec is available to the world.

  Understand Pro Res422 supported in FCS2 but not hardware accelerated on the K3 like on the IOHD.

  Any inkling that Kona 3 will play out its model life unchanged or could anyone see a tweak to allow the card to process the ProRes422 prior to Kona 4?

  It will be interesting to see side by side comparos when all the hardware and software drops onto the market.

  the card will handle ProRes, and even encode from DL and 2K sources something the IoHD will not be able to do.
  The difference is that the IoHD has the codec in a separate chipset on the box so that compression can be done prior to attempting to pass data over the FW connection.

  you could be waiting awhile for that Kona 4 card me thinks.
