So Walter, “what does the survey say”
as stated,
“Of course, this will be interesting. Leopard is not out yet, but it has been shown publicly, so I have to believe that all the Apple workstations will be running Leopard at the show.”Is Apple running the spotted cat or the striped one ?????
Is the Octo just humming with the Kona 3, my finger is one invoice away from the button.
Inquiring minds want to know… I’d be there if it wasn’t for the overdue project.

It was all Tiger as far as I could tell. The Kona 3 I was demo’ing was running on a Quad machine, not even sure if AJA had an Octo in the booth.
But I’m ordering an Octo next week for my suite.

Hi Walter-
Anything specific the octo machine did better than what you have now, or just an overall speed boost? Saw some tests last week that indicated it might not have the speed you’d expect because of a memory speed bottleneck. But firsthand accounts are what really matter, so…what do you think?

I was told by the 50′ head of Nick Rashby that AJA did indeed have an Octo Core running the 108060p demo on the other Kona 3 machine. If you don’t know what the 50′ head of Nick Rashby means, you’ll need to investigate on this forum. 🙂
FWIW, the 108060p running in the booth was the prettiest thing I saw in the entire show, though I did not stand in the 1+ hour line to see the Red Camera 4k demo.

We’re ready for a new machine, I always purchase the fastest machine available when we’re ready to move, so it will be the octo core. The Compressor demo clearly showed how much faster that one application was threaded across all 8 and for no other reason that the one application, that will be a huge boost to our productivity.

gee and I though I had the biggest head in the booth….
I was on the 1080 p60 station most of my time at the booth and it was only an octo core on Monday, It was swapped out that night and used to save someone else’s demos.
A couple of notes on the 1080 60p workflow. It is a Dual Link signal in 4:2:2 due to the data rate from the camera/ deck. It was captured over 2 HDSDI cables from the most current version of SRW1 portable field recorder.
60p is part of Sony’s newest features on the highend, So that the 5000 and F23 cameras can now have the variable frame rate capture. ( shown at the DP conference and in the Band Pro booth with a plethora of DP’s including Jon Fauer, Dave Stump, and CML’s Geoff Boyle.) There are only a half a dozen types of cameras that can do this type of footage,
and most of them are pretty rare for most Bovines to work with.But think that you can do 1080 60p – my station was running 2 fully populated xraids, connected to the station via 4 FC cables, with a data rate over 340 MGBS (340 MegaBytes Per Second) this is an array killer.

According to the AJA speed test on the DV Serve website, that unit we were running tops out over 600MB/s read and over 400MB/s. That was off a single unit instead of two X-RAID’s tied together. I’m trying to get a demo unit here for testing before we make our purchase decision to see if those speeds are accurate.

correct,
you were only pushing that InfoTrend array at about 1/2 of its potential thruput, rather than the MAXED out bandwidth on the 2 xRaids striped together.gary adcock
