    Hi,

The goal is to get a project that was shot at 24p on the Varicam out of the computer and into an HDCAM HDW-1800 deck recorded at 24psf. I am not an editor, or a post guy, I am a DP, but the post production head is in Thailand at the moment, and this stuff needs to get tested and shipped out of the country and we have a bit of a time crunch. I know FCP pretty well, I understand the workflow very well, it is just a matter of getting evything tow work.

So today I installed the Kona 3 into a brand new mac, plugged in the break out box, hooked up a 17′ Panasonic HDLCD via SDI, hooked up the 1200a deck. New project AJA setting DVCpro HD 720 23.98fps. Digitized a clip worked like a champ. Went to the AJA control panel and sort of hit a wall. I was able to get it to output a 720p59.xx signal out of SDI1 and a 1080i out of SDI2, but was unable to get it to spit out a 1080 24psf signal.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, please let me know. I am still wading thru manuals, and may hit on the cure, but if anyone has done this, please save me some time and hassle.

That sony 1800 deck is way cool though 🙂

    Thanks,

    Nick Gardner

Well, 24P is all my LHe can do! Assuming the project came in at 1080 from the 1200, the 1080/ 23.98Psf setting worked for me using 25fps media reconformed in Cinema Tools – but I wanted 29.97 from it!

[Nick Gardner] “I was able to get it to output a 720p59.xx signal out of SDI1 and a 1080i out of SDI2, but was unable to get it to spit out a 1080 24psf signal.”

    that is correct
you cannot get a split signal as 1080 24psf and 720p59.94 at the same time. Cross conversions do not allow for multiple frame rates on the video out.

With a 720p 23.98 project and timeline you will need to set the FRAME BUFFER to 720p 23.98 in the KONA control panel
ONLY then will you be able to output 1080 23.98psf as a cross converted signal from the Kona
( the indicator on the video out should change from red to green to show that this correct.)

    Hi Gary,

Yup, thanks for the help. I just got it all straightened out. It was actually pretty simple once I understood what was going on. I got the deck set at 23.98psf as well and it is working like a champ.
    Thanks again for the help.

    cheers,

    Nick Gardner
