Equipment: OSX 10.4.8, FCP 5.0.4, AJA Kona LH, Sony UVW-1800 BetaCam SP deck

I am trying to capture 16:9 BetaCam SP footage into FCP, but the captured files are all 4:3. I duplicated the 8-bit uncompressed AJA codec and checked the Anamorphic 16:9 box. In the log & capture screen, the footage is anamorphic and has black bars. While capturing, the playback is 4:3 and so is the resulting QT. When interpreted in After Effects to 1.2 pixels, the footage looks right. I don’t believe this is the right work flow. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.

I think you are doing things right. Even if you capture it anamorphic, QT won’t display it properly.

Try making a new sequence or opening up an existing sequence. Make sure that in the sequence settings the anamorphic box is checked. Drop your clip into that sequence and it should look correct in the canvas. It should also look right when you open the clip in the viewer.

The capture preview window doesn’t show you the correct aspect ratio either.
