  Problem while Keying black silhouette video in Adobe After Effects

  I am trying to composite two videos with keying black color, one video has a silhouette other video is a hyper lapse video. But everytime I try to add key nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong? I am using Adobe After Effects CS6. first video https://i.imgur.com/RBL4jxb.png

  Im guessing your problem is that it isnt a pure silouette, ie the background behind the girl isnt white. you need to add effects to the girl and play with the levels or curves until the background is completely white. Then you can use that image as the key, it will be a luma key as you are using the white levels to key out the landscape image.

  So your final layers will be: bottom – 1st image of girl. middle layer landscape with ‘luma inverted matte applied’. and top layer will be the girl with effects applied to seperate the girl and her background as best you can. precomp this top layer and do what ever you can to seperate her and the background. curves probably wont do it you can also use ‘change color’ ‘hue saturation’ and probably some rotoscope with masking.   Generally for a sihouette, it’s easier to shoot it on a green screen, key it, and then use that key as a matte layer over a solid(black in your case). If your camera was locked down, you could give the difference key a shot.
