720p 23.98 from 59.94 D5 tape?
I had a client with a D5 tape at 720p 59.94. The tape was generated in our facility’s telecine and has “pulldown” or duplicate frames, so it’s similar to a DVCPro HD tape that has 24 frames inside of 60. (i.e. frame 1,then a duplicate, frame 3, then two duplicates etc.) The client wanted 23.98 Quicktimes captured from this D5.
Question is, can I capture with the Kona 3 and remove the duplicate frames so I can end up with 23.98 clips? I’m not sure it would work because ordinarily this workflow is for DVCPro HD that has flagged frames that can be read by the Kona via the RP-188 User bits stream. Does the D5 have the same type of thing? Can the Kona remove these frames? Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
